This Comp Kills Fascists Volume 2

BY Greg PrattPublished Jun 22, 2010

When Agoraphobic Nosebleed/Pig Destroyer grind psycho Scott Hull puts together a compilation that's an audio love letter to the old Cry Now, Cry Later compilations, but with the best of today's grind and power violence bands, it just has to rule. And, like the first This Comp Kills Fascists, this second instalment does indeed rule. This 74-song, 78-minute beast has no shortage of highlights. Great idea kicking things off with Lack of Interest and their classic power violence/grind; Drugs of Faith prove again why they are one of the underground scene's unsung grind heroes; Marion Barry get really noisy and lo-fi with some of the most primitive material on this compilation. Crom drop a six-minute, raw, sludge/power violence/experimental noise track in the midst of it all; Septic Surge are insanely noisy; and Despise You put the power, and the violence, in power violence. Noisear play cool tech grind, better than the name would have you believe; Population Reduction sound positively musical, with their hardcore-influenced power violence; and Idiots Parade bring the crust. The last third of the CD gets a bit monotonous if you're attempting this in one sitting, but Three Faces of Eye manage to drop the best song title of the whole thing in that back half: "Fuck Corporate Grind."
