Uprising

With great collections from Honest Jon's, Italians Do it Better and Livity Sound surfacing over the past few years, alongside the resurgence of vinyl, there's been a mini-revival of the essential electronic music label compilation. Released as a sprawling triple-LP, Uprising collects 33 up-and-coming artists associated with Berlin-based label Project: Mooncircle. Pulling together over two hours of mostly ultra-modern instrumental electronic music, a large portion of Uprising surprisingly operates within the same chilly BPM-range. Flanked by my.head's dreamy/dreary "Counting," Thriftworks' minimal hip-hop cruiser "Die Gracefully" (featuring DH the Mythicalifornian) and Drogtech's polyrhythmic lullaby, "Around the Corner," Uprising possesses just the right amount of left-field moments to keep listeners absorbed and committed to Project: Mooncircle's brand of post-Kompakt microhouse. Uprising's unrelenting musical uniformity disqualifies anyone not engrossed in the deep house scene, making this comp a must-have for listeners with very specific (and minimal) tastes.
