Nublu Sound

BY Romina WendellPublished Jan 26, 2009

New York's intimate East Village Club showcases its borderless sound with a 12-track collection of artists launched from the venue. Successfully channelling Nublu's famous house party ambiance and fresh vibes, the live groove and café-to-club atmosphere of this sampler makes for a pretty decent calling card for the NYE hotspot turned record label. Serious highlights are the bossa reggae grooves of Forro In The Dark's "Nonsensical" and the crystal-clear sax afloat Wax Poetics' shuffling rhythms in "Hoppala." The smoothed over bump and thunder of Kudu's "Boom Boom" is the CD's catchiest track, and "Striptease in Istanbul," from Istanbul Sessions, its sexiest. U-Roy's slack scat over Love Trio's lazy beats and bass line in "One Thing" rides the disc's deepest groove, and the atmospheric jazz send off from Our Theory in "Midnight Sun" leaves the listener with only the freshest aftertaste of global grooves and acid-jazz evolutions.
