Various Kitsuné Parisien II
Paris's Kitsuné Records, like many up-and-coming electronic labels, is better known for its series of compilations than for its stable of artists. On Kitsuné Parisien II, the label once again collects the latest batch of musicians that have either emerged from, or cut their teeth in, the eclectic and tight Parisian music scene. Kitsuné Parisien II kicks off with their most anticipated release to date: a track from Tomorrow's World, the sleek side-project from Air's Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Lou Hayter (New Young Pony Club). Although most of the artists on this second volume come from very diverse musical backgrounds, the pop sensibilities of Ile-de-France's Owlle, the much-too-late '80s rundown of Nameless and the post-shoegaze of We Are Knights are all shaped by a post-Daft Punk gloss. Like its predecessor, Kitsuné Parisien II paints a picture of an underground dance music scene (much like mainstream American pop) obsessed with how its art will sound in the club, trading nuance for immediacy.
