Gigantour 2

BY Chris AyersPublished Apr 24, 2008

As Dave Mustaine’s brainchild, Gigantour is one of the most balanced metal tours, with consistently excellent bands and little fluff. With live footage from the 2006 tour recorded in superior DTS 5.1 surround sound, the Gigantour 2 DVD wins out over its companion CD (sold separately) due to a better set list. Young bands Into Eternity, Sanctity and the Smash Up warm the crowd but it’s established acts Overkill (highlight "Necroshine”) and Lamb of God ("Now You’ve Got Something to Die For”) that seriously stoke the masses. Opeth shine radiantly on the extended "The Leper Affinity” and Arch Enemy’s Angela Gossow belts out a smashing performance. As the elder metal statesmen, Megadeth show their aged shredding on "Take No Prisoners” and "Peace Sells.” Extras include quality interviews with each band, Mustaine’s cheeky commentary and a life-on-the-road segment that’s worth the price alone.
