'Bands in Disguise' (Polyvinyl Records covers sampler)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 31, 2014

Since many of us will spend Halloween escaping ourselves by dressing up as blood-sucking vampires, dead celebrities and sexy nurses, the good folks at Polyvinyl are getting into the spirit by offering up a digital goodie bag of their roster's role-playing cover songs. Dubbed Bands in Disguise, the set is available for free right now.

Comprising a number of previously released tracks from the Polyvinyl catalogue, you'll hear Braid's Bob Nanna channelling Frank Black via a cover of Pixies' "Trompe le Monde," Japandroids tackling Racer X's "Japan" and Wampire doing Kraftwerk's "Das Model." Other artists involved include Of Montreal, Asobi Seksu, Mates of State and Ida.

You also get is a sneak preview of Owen's forthcoming covers set Other People's Songs LP, which is a redo of Smoking Popes' "Under the Blanket."

You can download Bands in Disguise over here, while Other People's Songs arrives December 2.
