Burzum's Varg Vikernes has been released from police custody after French authorities could not prove the he had been "plotting a massacre" from his rural French farm home.

NKR.no [via Metal Injection] reports that the black metal musician was released at 7 p.m. local time today (July 18) after police were "unable to identify specific terrorist plans or terrorist target."

Vikernes and his wife Marie Chachet were arrested on Tuesday (July 16) after the latter's purchase of four rifles led the French government's Central Directorate of Internal Intelligence to believe the pair were "plotting a massacre." Chachet, who was released from custody yesterday (July 17), alleged the guns were intended for her shooting club.

According to NKR.no, Vikernes will face a judge in a few weeks due to a "breach of racism law," but a specific date was not revealed. Agnès Thibault-Lecuivre, a spokeswoman for the Paris prosecutor's office, confirmed that Vikernes stands accused because of material published on his website.
