Vancouver's Victory Square Block Party Brings out Slam Dunk, the Courtneys, Jay Arner, Young Braised
Once again, Vancouver's D.I.Y. scene will celebrate the Labour Day long weekend outdoors for the annual Victory Square Block Party. Set to take place September 1 at Victory Square Park in downtown Vancouver, the 2013 edition will feature performances from sax-blastin' party band Slam Dunk, hyped indie rock trio the Courtneys and new wave tunesmith Jay Arner, among others.

A press release from co-presenters Music Waste and UBC's campus-based volunteer radio station CiTR 101.9 FM confirms the free, eight-band outdoor concert will also feature sets from Slow Learners, Kristi Lane Sinclair, Young Braised, Cascadia and V.Vecker Ensemble, with DJs spinning in between bands.

"Every year the organizers look to celebrate the incredible talent in this city by curating a diverse lineup of some of Vancouver's most promising independent artists. 2013 is set to continue that trend," Music Waste/Victory Square organizer Mike Gittens said in a statement.

CiTR Music Director Sarah Cordingley added of the station's involvement in the Block Party: "We are really excited that CiTR can become a part of this awesome community event — the artists represented and the cause that is supported are completely in line with what we do at the station, so the connection was extremely natural."

Proceeds from event sponsors and a raffle will go towards Megaphone, a local publication dedicated to issues in the Downtown Eastside that's sold on Vancouver streets by homeless and low-income vendors, as well as to CiTR.
