Vancouver's St. James Hall Under Threat of Redevelopment

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 11, 2015

The future of Vancouver's St. James Hall is in jeopardy, as the non-profit community centre that houses the venue may go up for sale and end up in the hands of developers.

St. James Community Square posted a link to a petition on its Facebook page. This petition aims to save the centre, and it's already most of the way to its goal of 800 signatures.

In addition to being a community centre with various educational and recreational programs, the hall has hosted many concerts over the years. Performers at the venue have include Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Bahamas, Cold Specks, Mount Eerie, Basia Bulat, Katie Stelmanis and Said the Whale, among many others.

The hall is all-ages, and it's notable for being one of the only active music venues in Vancouver's Kitsilano neighbourhood, as most performances spaces are found downtown or on the east side of the city.

The hall has events booked for the coming months, so hopefully these will go ahead as planned.
