Vancouver's Plus Perfect Transform into Mobile Record Store on Cross-Canada Tour
This week, Vancouver rockers Plus Perfect embarked upon a coast-to-coast tour of Canada in support of their album New Atlantis, out now on Plans to Make Plans. Unlike your average promotional tour, however, the group won't be selling only their own records: they'll also be offering a large selection of albums from fellow Vancouver-based indie acts.

For the month-long outing, keyboardist Mike Gittens has assumed the role of distributor for a number of bands and labels. In an email to Exclaim!, he writes, "As a big supporter of the local Vancouver music scene, I want to support bands and labels recording and putting out records, so I'm doing what I can to get these awesome records out to folks."

Along with Plus Perfect bassist Jesse Gander, Gittens is a recording engineer at Burnaby, BC's Hive Creative Labs, where bands such as Black Mountain, Destroyer and Ladyhawk have all recorded. A press release notes, "I do carry a lot of records that Jesse or I have recorded, and it's interesting to have recorded and mixed an album and then drive it across the country to sell in a bar in Halifax"

As for what to expect from the collection, Gittens tells Exclaim!, "Among other things I'm carrying the entire vinyl catalogue from the Broadway to Boundary Records, Nominal Records and Hockey Dad Records." This means CDs and LPs by Vancouver underground favourites including Nü Sensae, Defektors, Vapid, Shearing Pinx and many more.

The selection draws heavily from Vancouver's garage, punk and noise scenes. Still, pop and folk fans will find some treasures, too, including a seven-inch from No Gold (who have an album expected out via Unfamiliar Records) and a LP from Weathered Pines.

See Plus Perfect's touring schedule below and sample New Atlantis over at MySpace. If they're coming through your town, make sure to show up to the performance with some extra cash. As the press release notes, "For five or six dollars you can either buy one more beer at the bar or walk home with a record."
