Vancouver's No UFO's Preps Vinyl Reissue for Spectrum Spools

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 11, 2011

Back in January, forward-thinking experimental label Editions Mego unveiled its new Spectrum Spools imprint, helmed by Emeralds' John Elliott. Next month, the spin-off label will cap off its successful first year with a reissue from Vancouver drone specialist No UFO's, whose 2010 album Soft Coast will get a much-deserved vinyl release.

Originally released (and now sold out) on cassette through Nice Up International, Soft Coast is the work of sonic trailblazer Konrad Jandavs. An announcement from Spectrum Spools says that the album "was calculated and carefully pieced together to spawn a whole new universe from the omniverse of collective musics." The announcement draws comparisons to Krautrock, but notes that Jandavs finds "a new perspective from looking at musics past and present."

The album contains 14 tracks, although five of them are under a minute in length (and "untitled II" is just eight seconds). Go here to pre-order this "potent string of collaged 'cosmic trash'" directly from the label.

Scroll past the tracklist to listen to the subsequent No UFO's EP Mind Controls the Flood, out now on Public Information.
