Published May 17, 2012Following last year's inaugural edition of the Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival, Vancouver-based musicians and merchants alike are banding together again to put on the summer showcase. Scheduled to take place July 21, the free street fair will be bringing out a number of local heavy hitters, such as Kathryn Calder, Ladyhawk, Blackout Beach and more.
The lineup was partially announced tonight (May 16) at a launch party at Zulu Records that featured performances from Calder, as well as the High Drops and Capitol 6, who will also be playing the Kitsilano-area festival. Other acts revealed thus far include the Zolas, the Dead Ghosts, Shearing Pinx, Weed and Ballantynes.
All told, over 30 acts will be playing on stages spread out across West 4th Avenue between noon and 8 p.m., while food carts and tables for local businesses will fill out the rest of the cordoned off area.
"This festival has grown from year one, and so has the calibre of artists performing this year. In 2012, we are anticipating even larger crowds coming out to enjoy the festivities," Russ Davies, executive director of the West Fourth Avenue Business Improvement Association, said in a statement. "The best part is that this all-day event is totally free and everyone is welcome,"
Last year, over 30,000 people attended the outdoor event, which hosted performances from Mode Moderne, Slam Dunk, Sun Wizard, No Gold, B-Lines, and a set from the Evaporators that yielded the album art for Nardwuar's recent Busy Doing Nothing compilation.
