It follows the Zolas bassist's debut solo collection 'Mild Fantasy Violence'

dwi — the alt-rock solo project from the Zolas bassist Dwight Abell — has announced his new album Zoo Life, previewed today by latest single, "PHONY."

Produced by Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Monowhales, Nuela Charles), the 11-track LP arrives July 7 on Light Organ. It follows dwi's debut collection, 2021's Mild Fantasy Violence.

The album was inspired by an escapist nostalgia for gaming that aims to speak to the kid in all of us. "Gaming was the first thing I really remember falling in love with as a kid," Abell explained in a press release. "It was an obsessive escape from everything that was going on around me. I spend a lot of time wondering why things happened the way that they did. Zoo Life serves as a mirror and seeks to gain resolve."

Zoo Life includes dwi's previous singles, "Party4One" and "Marker," the latter featuring a guest verse from Zolas frontman Zach Gray.

"Everyone is a few different people in one," the artist added of new track "PHONY," which leans so Britpop it nearly sounds like he's inflecting a British accent. "The person we are, the person we think we are and the person we want to be. 'PHONY' is a song about spending too much time in that rabbit hole."
