Published Nov 12, 2012The University of British Columbia's CiTR 101.9 FM has been a fixture of the Vancouver indie scene for an incredible 75 years, and the radio station will be celebrating this milestone with an elaborate anniversary show. Dubbed the "Diamond Radioversary Party," it will take place on November 17 at Chapel Arts in Vancouver.
The show will feature a ukulele performance from Cub's Lisa Marr, who is a former CiTR DJ and an ex-editor of the station's music magazine, Discorder. Also on the bill are Carolyn Mark and the New Best Friends, Gang Signs, Fine Mist, and Channels 3x4. A press release further promises, "Posters, playlists and pictures from the past will be on display, and birthday cake for everyone. As to be expected, there is also talk of surprise guest appearances."
Not only is this the station's 75th anniversary, but this is its 30th year on the FM dial, plus the 30th anniversary of Discorder. As a side note, several of us here at Exclaim! have served stints at Discorder as well.
In addition to the "Diamond Radioversary" concert, the weekend of celebrations will include alumni events like brunch, station tours and even a chance for former DJs host old radio shows.
