Vampire Weekend Drummer Chris Tomson Announces Solo Debut as Dams of the West

Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson is the latest member of the Ivy League indie rock group to make some extra-curricular music. A new album is on the way from his side-project, Dams of the West.

Tomson's debut solo album is titled Youngish American, and it arrives sometime this fall. The musician explained to FADER that the project began when Tomson returned from a Vampire Weekend tour a few years back, "feeling extremely post-30 and with a completely empty calendar for the first time in my adult life."

He began writing songs, and set to work on making the LP with Black Keys member Patrick Carney and Roger Moutnot assuming co-production duties.

Below, you can check out a lyric video for the record's first single, "Death Wish," which has the singer-songwriter pondering his future while strolling past nature scenes or making his bed at home. The clip was directed by Tomson's wife, Emily.

In related news, former Vampire Weekend partner Rostam Batmanglij will release a collaborative album with the Walkmen's Hamilton Leithauser later this month. You can find out more info on that release over here.
