Published Sep 05, 2014We just gave Valery Gore our Mark of Excellence for her upcoming album Idols in the Dark Heart, and now everyone can hear what it sounds like via a full stream.
While Gore's past music was jazzy and piano-driven, this album finds the Toronto songwriter venturing into more experimental electronic terrain with help from co-producer/bassist Devon Henderson.
Opener "With the Future" sports drum machine syncopations, computerized synth textures and a chopped-up vocal hook. Elsewhere, "Chinook" begins with start-stop bass riffs before settling into a dance pulse, "Character Girls, Quiet Guys" is a spaced-out adaptation of her jazzy inclinations, and hymnal closer "S.O." ends the album with thoughtful introspection and nostalgic memories.

Idols in the Dark Heart, Valery Gore's third full-length effort, arrives independently on September 9.
