Urban Culture Conference and Awards Coming to Vancouver in August

If you're a Vancouverite who loves local arts, then you may want to check out the Urban Culture Conference and Awards. The event takes place at the Plaza of Nations on August 27 to 28, and will pay tribute to the city's thriving musical and non-musical culture.

A press release calls it a "celebration of all things local -- music, arts, beer, food, sport, and business." Among the musicians performing at the conference are Fighting for Ithaca, Versus the Nothing, Mia Moth, Free City Collective, Matt Brevner, Sonreal, Ninjaspy, Okay City, Quartered and Lamar Ashe, plus various DJs.

Of course, being a conference, it will also feature seminars are speakers. These include the bosses of 604 Records and 6S Marketing.

In the months leading up to the big event, fans can vote for who should win awards for being the Best of Vancouver. There are more than 60 categories, 13 of which are for music.

Vote on your favourite bands, producers, record labels and more right here. The winners will receive a trophy and an online banner.

The conference grounds will feature a selection of local vendors, plus sports and dance exhibitions. Tickets cost $30 for a day and $40 for the weekend. VIP passes are also available. Buy tickets from the festival's website.
