Unearth

III: In the Eyes of Fire

Published Oct 1, 2006

Unearth may not be the most original group of metal mongers but they have certainly been growing in leaps and bounds over the years. III: In the Eyes of Fire finds them clearly more confident about their abilities and overall residency in the camp of higher-profile acts. It strengthens their attack and bravado on this album and the band experiments with minute elements such as odd breakdowns and minor guitar flails that accent and offset the otherwise rampant stream of chug riffs and scorching screams they are known for. It’s not much though… just enough to create an overall sense that the band are truly starting to enjoy their craft. Raging away with their Americanised version of In Flames combating Pantera, tracks such as "Giles,” "Unstoppable” and "The Glorious Nightmare” shift from violent thrash beats to heart-stopping half-time grooves and back with ease. It’s not going to redefine the scene but with this step up in self-assurance, they confirm that the hype is deserved.
