Under Pressure

Come Clean

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jul 18, 2007

It almost seems like a joke that this collection of Winnipeg-based crust balls could come clean. They’ve got about as much chance of that as the Dwarves, maybe less. Yet while Blag Dhalia and his crew of young and good-looking are outright perverts, Under Pressure wallow in more of an intelligent, independent and social enemy type of dirt. Drawing their sound from bands steeped in rock but who supercharge it for a ballsier attack, the likes of Motörhead, Discharge and hints of Black Flag are discernable on this sophomore disc. Accomplished, crisp and infectiously energetic, the entire album has an atmosphere about it that’s comparable to catching a lover cheating on you: you’re enthralled and kind of turned on but fucking angry. Exposed to this, the listener feels as if they’re being infected not only by knowledge and power but by sheer street determination. And we love being the voyeur.
