Ultra Magnus and DJ SLAM!

"Thirst Trap" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 26, 2016

Hip-hop duo Ultra Magnus and DJ Slam hail from Toronto, and their hometown provides the backdrop in their brand new video for "Thirst Trap."

The track is the first single from the pair's sophomore record Magnum Opus, and it channels the upbeat boom-bap of classics like A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast and Slick Rick. Those aren't the only familiar vibes you'll hear though — the cut samples a cover version of the Smiths' "This Charming Man" by Canadian indie darlings Stars.

That eclectic blend of sounds gets matched with a video that captures Magnus and Slam atop a roof looking out over Toronto, and also showcases dancers performing choreography by Jaden Hong. The clip was directed and edited by Rayne Reilly.

Magnus Opus is set to drop on September 2 through Hand'Solo Records, and it will be welcomed with a release party at the Garrison in Toronto that same night. Details for the release show is available here, while pre-orders for the album are ongoing over here.
