UBT Take 'Ego Orientation' on North American Tour

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 4, 2013

Today (June 3) marks the official release of Ego Orientation, the new album from Priestess alum Mikey Heppner's psych-tinged garage troupe UBT. The band, rounded out by his partner in crime Kathryn McCaughey and new recruit Gabe Rousseau, have now announced a batch of North American tour dates.

The run of dates includes stops all over Canada, with shows scheduled in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. There are even a handful of American dates as well.

With that in mind, it's probably good that they're no longer calling themselves Uncle Bad Touch, as that would make for an uncomfortable border crossing. Speaking with Exclaim!, Heppner explains that the decision to shorten their name was a simple one.

"We were starting to have trouble getting passionately behind a band called 'uncle bad touch' so we took most of the letters out," he says.

As for the new album, Heppner says he's excited for the rest of the world to hear it.

"We listen to it all the time, we're very happy with it!" he says. But where do they fit into Canada's music scene at large? "We're kind of an anomaly between garage pop and riffy proggishness, but a lot of people are into that sort of anomaly I think, even if they don't know it yet."
