U2 Reportedly Working on Achtung Baby Reissue

BY Josiah HughesPublished Sep 17, 2010

Last year, world-dominating rockers U2 continued their pursuit of ultimate pop culture saturation with a deluxe reissue of The Unforgettable Fire. The remastered album came in a variety of release options, including a limited box set, a deluxe edition, a vinyl record and a plain old CD. Now, the band are allegedly giving their 1991 landmark Achtung Baby the same treatment.

While no official statement has come from the band, the news leaked via indie pop auteur John Vanderslice on Twitter. The artist is currently mixing a new album with the Magik*Magik Orchestra, and tweeted, "I'm mastering the new JV/Magik*Magik Orchestra record with Bernie Grundman in LA. They're remastering Achtung Baby in next room!!"

Vanderslice continued, saying, "Any suggestions for witty opening salvos to drop on U2 crew when I barge in on Achtung Baby remastering session?" and "Maybe I can bring them pirouettes ("from Pepperidge Farm") in root beer floats, a la Paul Rudd in I Love You, Man?"

U2's Achtung Baby reissue will most likely be out in 2011 as a tie-in with the album's 20th anniversary. Thanks to Slicing Up Eyeballs for the tip.
