Former Battles member Tyondai Braxton is back with another preview from his forthcoming solo set, HIVE1. Exhibiting the experimental nature of the set is a stream of rippling ambient piece, "Gracka."
The track begins with a frantic trickle of electronic tones, which sounds something akin to a digital waterfall. The cut eventually slips a comparatively rigid, though playful beat into the mix, but there are various out-there skitterings and ecstatic claps to keep things weird.
As previously reported, HIVE1 is based on "HIVE," a five-person multimedia work that premiered at New York's Guggenheim Museum in 2013. Braxton's studio interpretation arrives May 12 via Nonesuch, and he will take it to Montreal's MUTEK festival on May 30.
