Published Oct 17, 2012Last month, we learned that Castle Face Records and a handful of modern-day psych artists, including White Fence, Thee Oh Sees and the Fresh and Onlys, were getting together to release The Velvet Underground & Nico by Castle Face and Friends, a toast to the Velvet Underground's debut LP. Another Bay Area artist contributing to the project is prolific rocker Ty Segall, and you can check out his cover of "Femme Fatale" now a couple weeks ahead of the vinyl-only release's November 6 street date.
As could be expected, the song takes a decidedly jumpier position than Nico's elegantly paced original. Guitar distortion is dialed up tenfold, a nervous '60s rave-up beat is applied to the new attempt, and Segall's nasal yelp spazzes out way more than the late Nico's moodier musings.
You can check out the punched-up tribute below.
Segall also played Conan last night (October 16), though the video is not available in Canada.
