Twin Bandit

"Rosalyn" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 7, 2015

Vancouver-based, Americana-inspired folk duo Twin Bandit recently unveiled their debut LP For You, and now Exclaim! is giving you the first look at the new video for album cut "Rosalyn."

Consisting of Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliott, the two-piece unit delivers music that blurs the lines between traditional bluegrass and modern folk — a sound that shines through on "Rosalyn." It straddles the fine line between beauty and tragedy, as Walker explains in a statement about the track:

"Rosalyn" is a song that I wrote in honour of a close friend who passed away last spring. I was with Jamie in the studio working on our first album and I was reflecting on Rosalyn when suddenly I felt a wave of inspiration! I left the studio to grab my guitar. I cried for an hour or so and came back with this song. It is an ode to her life, and many others living in the Downtown Eastside. Addiction and poverty are a visceral reality for many in the community I grew up in but there is more to the story. This song is a reminder of the beauty that shines through people like Rosalyn, who bring joy into the lives of those they meet, even in the midst of their struggles.

The sentimental song is matched with visuals that show the songstresses performing all over town — from the streets, to a church, to a fruit market, to the coastline. Despite the dark inspiration behind the song, the video manages to show off the lighter side to the city. Scroll past Twin Bandit's upcoming tour dates to give it a watch.

For You is out now on Nettwerk.
