Tweak Bird

Undercover Crops

It's easy to see how brothers Caleb and Ashton Bird fell in with the Melvins ― the Carbondale, IL based-duo, who perform under the name Tweak Bird, share the same love for heavy riffs and dashing expectations as Buzz, Dale and company. The pair's latest, the seven-song Undercover Crops EP, was knocked out over a long weekend in the studio with Big Business guitarist Toshi Kasai, who co-produced the band's previous EP and LP with Melvins' drummer Dale Crover. Aside from a few sonic tweaks and the bizarre, mantra-driven "Moans," whose only lyrics are "Everyone is Paranoid," the EP doesn't veer too far from the sludge-rock territory of their 2010 self-titled full-length. While vocals on tracks like "People" recall the heady days of the Paisley Underground, the brothers pummel eardrums with their baritone guitar and drums attack. It's a solid release from this next time.
