Today (March 3) is tUnE-yArDs songwriter Merrill Garbus' birthday, and she's celebrating the big day in style by announcing a new album. Nikki Nack is due out on May 6 through 4AD.
Currently, not too much is known about the forthcoming collection, which is the follow-up to 2011's w h o k i l l. For a taste of what the album will offer, Garbus put together a "MegaMix" containing a mishmash of snippets from the album. The two-and-a-half-minute sound collage includes lots of quirky electronic pop experimentalism. Hear it at the bottom of this page.
She said in a statement, "I've put together a mash-up of a lot of the songs from the album, so you can get a tiny taste. We really can't wait to play this music for you. Thanks for all your support and patience while we cooked this chicken!"
Also below, see her upcoming tour schedule. It includes a recently announced NXNE date, plus a smattering of U.S. gigs and some European shows.
