You know Kraftwerk werent really robots. I hope Im not debunking anyones concept of what the electronic pioneers really were, but no, not robots. (Same goes for Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, theyre not real either. Sorry it happened to me so I feel its important that I ruin someone elses day.) Have no fear though because New Zealands the Trons are actual robots in the disguise of an indie band built out of instruments and KNEX (or some like-minded construction toy).
Okay, Ill admit, the song "Sister Robot needs some work: its a bit repetitive on the strumming, and I cant really understand the singers vocals (no, not because of a heavy Kiwi accent). But this sampling is just a rehearsal, warming up for a performance at the Ignition Fringe Festival. Like any upstart band, theyll improve. I guess we need to remember though that THESE ARE ROBOTS, so Im willing to give them some time to hone some kind of masterpiece, get rich, develop umm oil addictions (?), die of said addiction, break-up, release various flop solo albums, publish a tell-all autobiography about how Johnny-Five was their Pete Best, be the subject of both a Behind the Music episode and one of those Under Review DVDs that build documentaries out of former journalists and band members gardeners, and then launch a reunion tour with a new, much younger and more high tech lead guitarist. I cant wait.
