Triads

Hologram

BY Vincent PollardPublished Nov 1, 2011

After losing their beloved drummer to Berlin, the remaining members of Toronto, ON-based math rockers Ça Va Mal decided to forge on, sans drummer, and pursue a more electronic path. Ryan Cherewaty and Jay Gordon formed Triads in 2009, a synth-based duo that march to the beat of their own drum machine. And following several great live performances, this three-track EP marks their first release. Opening track "Le Comte" starts off with a killer bass line layered under lush synth wizardry, evoking Turzi or PVT. On second track "Angelus," Triads make tentative steps into vocalising, with a tangible post-punk influence. But what's striking is their marriage of an almost Caribou-esque melodic sensibility to an Emeralds-like build, which continues on closing track "Magistrate." Hologram is an accomplished debut EP, available for free via their website, and a taste of potentially greater things to come.
