While Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor already has a long list accolades, he can now add Country Music Awards winner to the list.
Following his nomination alongside NIN partner Atticus Ross, the pair have just won a CMA for their contribution to Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" mega hit.
The 53rd annual CMAs don't officially kick off until tonight, but "Old Town Road" just won the award for Musical Event of the Year, beating out the likes of Blake Shelton, Maren Morris and Garth Brooks.
As previously reported, "Old Town Road" samples Nine Inch Nails' track "34 Ghost IV," earning both Reznor and Ross a production credit on the chart-topping track. Producer YoungKio was also included on the list of "Old Town Road" nominees.
Recently speaking to Rolling Stone, Reznor explained his reaction to being part of "Old Town Road."
"At first, when you hear your stuff turned into something else, it always feels awkward because it's something that intimately came from you in some way," Reznor said. "You feel a little bit violated, you know? And then you get over that, and you realize it has become something else, and the Johnny Cash thing is incredible. It's very flattering.
"The music from Ghosts that turned into 'Old Town Road' certainly didn't come from as intimate a place as the song 'Hurt' did, but it's still something that I remember what I was thinking about when we did it and then you hear it turned into this other thing — it feels strange at first. But I thought he did a good job with that."
