Plagues... Walking Disease

BY Keith CarmanPublished Apr 24, 2008

When 17 tracks whiz by before you even know what hit you, a band have done their job. In the case of Plagues... Walking Disease — the CD unison of Trash Talk’s new Plagues six-song seven-inch and previous effort Walking Disease — these guys have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Thrilling yet creepy, creative yet forthright, the doom-y atmosphere within elicits comparisons to a time when extreme music was unhampered by expectation, instigating the crossover phenomenon. You know, that time just before metal bands were prophesising the end of humanity through nuclear war and hardcore wasn’t quite overtaken by the jock brigade? Thrust into Converge-ish hardcore territory, while clearly one of the more explosive crossover bands of today, Trash Talk’s Plagues... Walking Disease is the perfect unison of Cryptic Slaughter-ish full-speed pre-thrash agitated by the fury and rhythmic tumult of D.R.I. and Discharge, spiritually speaking. Thanks to its crisp, roaring production though, this wrath is updated for the arms-crossed, seen-it-all generation.
