In a review of Tram’s somnambulant debut, one NME scribe quipped that “quiet is the new loud,” and as absurdly hilarious as that sentiment might be, lately it’s been hard not to notice a rash of bands who’ve been putting Sleepytime tea on their rider. Their volume and pace has led some to describe Tram as “the London Low,” and certainly there are similarities, but Tram can stand on their own accomplished debut quite effectively, thank you very much. Heavy Black Frame is a delightfully subtle surprise, full of haunted melodies, layered instrumentation and a whole wealth of great songs, something that sometimes lacking in this new trend.
