Trail of Dead's Conrad Keely Goes Solo with 'Original Machines'

After a couple of decades releasing albums with …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, co-frontman Conrad Keely has just announced his solo debut. Entitled Original Machines, it will be out on January 22 through Superball Music.

The material was written while travelling, largely in Cambodia, where Keely currently lives. Recording took place this past summer in Montreal, and the album apparently finds the songwriter exploring styles outside of Trail of Dead's noisy indie rock sound.

According to a press release, the songwriter has been "collaborating with other musicians, both expat and Cambodian, on material as diverse as Irish folk and American bluegrass, to Khmer classics from the golden age of Cambodian psychedelic rock."

For a taste of Original Machines, stream "In Words of a Not So Famous Man" at the bottom of the page. It's a short, folksy song with solemn acoustic arpeggios and droning orchestrations that swell to a climactic rock crescendo.

Tour dates:

11/14 Leicester, UK - Bishop Street Church
11/15 Milton Keynes, UK - Craufurd Arms
11/16 Devizes, UK - The Lamb
11/17 London, UK - Shacklewell Arms
