Touriste What Are We

It makes perfect sense really. Coldplay are incredibly popular, therefore a band that sounds remarkably like Coldplay should be popular too. At least that’s what Touriste have convinced themselves and it might just work for them. This unsigned band from Kent, England really have listened to Parachutes so many times that they can’t really help but mimic it perfectly. For instance, the EP’s title track owes a huge debt to "Yellow” and the more cynical reviewer might comment on how it is in fact possible to sing Coldplay’s anthem right over the top of "What We Are,” although I won’t. Instead, I will focus on the fact that this is about as generic as music from the UK gets at the moment, and I have no doubt that Touriste will be all over the cover of NME by the end of the year. At least they are more interesting than Athlete. (Independent)
