Published Jun 09, 2014A few Greater Toronto Area artists are about to get some new bragging rights thanks to the SoundClash Music Award. The city's Harbourfront Centre has now named the five local unsigned artists who are nominated for this year's prize.
The contenders are: local indie band CANVAS, world music fusers DATU, Mississauga rapper Keita Juma, acoustic guitar composer Maneli and synth-minded duo Pale Eyes.
These nominees were chosen by industry experts following a call for submissions this past April. The public can now vote on who will win the prize; voting opens today (June 9) and runs until July 4, with the winner being announced in August. To help win over the voters, the artists will perform during the Harbourfront Centre's Canada Day Extravaganza on June 28 and 29.
The winner will get $5,000, with $3,000 for second and $2,000 for third. Other prizes include vocal coaching, artist development, photo shoots, and two round-trip flights from WestJet. The winner will perform at Harbourfront Centre's Hot & Spicy Food Festival on August 15.
