Toronto Public Library Wants Your Taste in Music

BY Denise FalzonPublished Apr 9, 2009

The Toronto Public Library will be ordering a massive list of CDs in order to update their "Take Some Noise" collection of music, and they want your input. This collection includes independent local and Canadian music, and currently includes artists such as K-Os, Holy Fuck, Joel Plaskett Emergency, Great Lake Swimmers, the Hidden Cameras, Final Fantasy, Caribou, Julie Doiron, and Masia One.

To give the TPL your opinion on what should be included in this collection, follow these steps:

1. Check if TPL carries your favorite Canadian indie CDs by clicking here.

2. If your picks aren't listed, email Michele at michele.collins@utoronto.ca so she can pass on your suggestions to Lisa Heggum, TPL's Youth Collections Librarian.

You've got until Wednesday, April 15 to send in your suggestions.

TPL also wants you to pass this on to your friends, musicians you know and youth because they want their suggestions too.

TPL gives the following instructions for musicians who want their CDs accepted into the TPL:

Toronto Public Library is collecting CDs by Toronto and Canadian musicians in selected branches. Soundscapes music store (572 College St.) is the vendor for this project. The library is not accepting donations. Independent musicians who would like their CDs to be included in TPL's collection should ask Soundscapes to accept them on consignment - this means leaving CDs with Soundscapes to sell with the provision that payment be made only on completed sales and that unsold goods may be returned. The library pays some attention to how CDs are selling at Soundscapes when making selections, but other factors are considered (e.g., reviews). This is an ongoing project.
