In addition to living a life of rock'n'roll excess as the drummer of Mötley Crüe, Tommy Lee is an animal rights activist, having been involved in the PETA campaign "Ink Not Mink." Now, the hard-partying star has spoken out against SeaWorld Orlando for the practice of masturbating a killer whale.
In a letter written to Terry Prather, president of the marine animal park, Lee complained, "We know from SeaWorld's own director of safety (as well as videos on the web) that the way you get his sperm is by having someone get into the pool and masturbate him with a cow's vagina filled with hot water. Even in my wildest days with Mötley Crüe I never could've imagined something so sick and twisted."
The whale in question is Tilikum, an orca who has been involved in the deaths of three people (including a trainer earlier this year). According to Lee, this means that the whale should be released into the wild, rather than kept in isolation.
He wrote, "We understand that you refuse to release this frustrated whale because he is your chief sperm bank."
The cause to release Tilikum is supported by an online campaign. Lee's letter was uncovered by TMZ, and can be read in full here.
