Published Nov 17, 2009At the end of 2006, Tom Waits dropped Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards on his fans. The three-disc set compiled rarities and new songs, and was another fine addition to Waits's consistently great catalogue. Now, Anti- has announced that the label be reissuing the compilation on vinyl next month.
According to the press release, the set will include another six songs, bringing the total track count to 62. The songs will then be spread across a whopping seven records pressed on 180-gram vinyl. The pack will also come with a full-sized twelve-inch booklet.
To refresh your memory, Waits himself describes the set as such: "Orphans are rough and tender tunes. Rhumbas about mermaids, shuffles about train wrecks, tarantellas about insects, madrigrals about drowning. Scared, mean, orphaned songs of rapture and melancholy. Songs that grew up hard. Songs of dubious origin rescued from cruel fate and now left wanting only to be cared for. Show that you are not afraid and take them home. They don't bite, they just need attention."
Give them all the attention they deserve when the limited vinyl edition of Orphans: Brawlers & Bastards is released on December 8.
