Taking a step back from their revved-up fuzz pop, this new exclusive track (available only from iTunes and eMusic) off their Smith EP shows another side to the just-turned 20-somethings. All theyve got on board is a tenderly-touched piano and Dave Monkss pensive vocals unfolding a curious narrative. They cant help but throw in some handclaps (or are those kneeslaps?) at the end, a signature that theyve now accepted with pleasure for our enjoyment, obviously. While it may not be as satisfying as the rambunctious racket of their debut EP that shares the title of this track, it shows these youngsters are ready to prove theyre not the Strokes tribute band everyone likes to peg them as.
