Time Spent Driving

Just Enough Bright

BY Rob NayPublished Jul 1, 2002

Produced by J Robbins, Just Enough Bright features tuneful mid-tempo punk and indie rock with vague traces of dejection and reflections on failed relationships. The frequent volume shifts and sturdy melodies of "Angel and I" give way to the stuttered rhythms and muted guitars of "Thin Like Paper." While an excellent rhythm section anchors "Rain on Sundays" and "Your Abrasion" smoulders leisurely with precise harmonies. "In Waiting" proceeds with hushed deliberation and "Sleep and Matchbooks" offers one of the disc's strongest tracks, featuring several volume transitions and robust vocals. Time Spent Driving's follow-up to their debut EP contains well-played and agreeably melodious indie rock, adeptly enhanced by J Robbins' cloudless recording.
