Timbaland Signs to Jay-Z's Roc Nation

Timbaland is already an insanely successful rapper and producer, and now his career is getting another boost thanks to a new deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation company.

Jay-Z announced the news on his Life + Times blog by posting a picture of him and Timbaland hanging out in the control room of a studio (above). The simple message accompanying the picture reads, "Roc Nation welcomes Timbaland to the family."

This signing makes a lot of sense, since Timbaland has produced several Jay-Z tracks over the years, including hits like "Big Pimpin'" (featuring UGK) and "Jigga What, Jigga Who." Most recently, Timbaland co-produced Justin Timberlake's Jay-Z-featuring single "Suit & Tie."

It's not entirely clear whether Timbaland has joined Roc Nation's record label or if the deal is simply a management contract. It's also not confirmed whether this will cover his work as an artist or a producer (or both). Perhaps this deal will facilitate the release of Timbaland's Shock Value III album, which has been in the works for several years now.

Thanks to MTV for the tip.
