Published Feb 15, 2013Hard-edged Bronx rapper Tim Dog (aka Timothy Blair) passed away yesterday (February 14) after a long battle with diabetes. The MC suffered a fatal seizure, The Source reports. He was 46 years old.
Tim Dog made waves in the early '90s with his legendary diss track "Fuck Compton," off his 1991 debut Penicillin on Wax The cut took direct aim at rappers Eazy- E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube ("N.W.A. ain't shit to me"), and featured a mean reworking of ESG's oft-sampled "UFO." The single earned response tracks from DJ Quik, Compton's Most Wanted and Dr. Dre.
Throughout his career, Tim Dog went on to release four solo LPs, collaborated with the likes of KRS-One, and teamed up with Kool Keith as Ultra for 1996's Big Time.
The East Coast rapper was also caught up in an online dating scam, pleading guilty to grand larceny for conning $32,000 out of Southaven, MS woman Esther Pilgrim between 2007 and 2009. The online affair reportedly had Tim Dog claiming he was rebuilding his rap career and attempting to raise funds to make a new record.
The MC received five years probation for the crime in 2011 and was supposed to pay Pilgrim $19,000 in restitution. The incident was later detailed on a 2012 episode of Dateline NBC.
