Thundercat

'Drunk' (album stream)

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Feb 24, 2017

Sure, it's not quite the weekend yet, but that doesn't mean one can't sit back and get Drunk with Thundercat and friends. The bass wizard's third studio LP sees official release today (February 24), and you can hear the entire thing right here.

Arriving through Brainfeeder, the 23-track effort is one both humorous and serious. Thundercat had this to say about Drunk to RBMA Daily in January:

I've always tried to hold true to what Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus told me: It has to come from an honest place. I feel like it's a place that I've been in different ways, seen different angles of and it's been a bit inspirational — the drinking...It has its ups and downs and everything, but I felt like it showed the human side of what goes on behind things, something that I see with all of my friends… I felt like it was kind of interweaved in the music culture. And it's something that's never talked about.

Thundercat's friends make sure to get in on the fun too, with the record featuring contributions from Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Wiz Khalifa, Kamasi Washington and Flying Lotus. Our review of the record notes that the collaborative aspect results in the most varied, inventive and enjoyable Thundercat material to date.

Physical editions of Drunk are available through Brainfeeder here. Thundercat is also currently touring the record around the world, and you can find the itinerary for all his dates here.
