Throw Me The Statue

Creaturesque

BY Jessica LewisPublished Aug 4, 2009

Give indie cred where indie cred is due: this Seattle-based band, named after a mixtape, were created by Scott Reitherman and released their first album, Moonbeams, on his small label Baskerville Hill, until his band (rounded out by Aaron Goldman, Jarred Grimes and Charlie Smith) were snatched up by Secretly Canadian and began working with producer Phil Ek (the Shins, Band of Horses). The result is Creaturesque, a familiar and soft bit lively toe-tapper. Their sound follows in the footsteps of Snow Patrol ("Ancestors") and the Dodos ("Tag"), and will likely be favoured on television soundtracks (most of all "The Outer Folds"), but that's not something to be ashamed of. It's hard to deny the infectious keyboards and synths on "Noises" and "Hi-Fi Goon." The songs are quick but last long enough to make an impact.
