Producer Charles Normal assembled a host of guest stars for Thiftstore Masterpiece's full-album tribute to Lee Hazlewood's early '60s LP Trouble Is a Lonesome Town. Ahead of the July 9 release through SideOneDummy, we've got the Frank Black-featuring track "Son of a Gun."
It's a unique folk/bossa nova hybrid that describes the woes of children whose fathers have unusual jobs. It begins with a spoken word intro and children's singing, and you won't even recognize Black's signature rough-around-the-edges croon until almost two minutes in.
Other guests on this tribute album include Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock, Pete Yorn, the Dandy Warhols' Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Art Brut's Eddie Argos and more.
