Published Oct 02, 2013It looks as if Jack White is taking a cue from his buddy Brendan Benson when it comes to releasing the new album from the Dead Weather. Like Benson, White and co. will be putting out a string of singles before eventually collecting them (along with some extra tracks) on a new full-length.
The first of these two-song 7-inch singles brings together the tunes "Open Up (That's Enough)" and "Rough Detective." Vinyl copies will be available exclusively as part of Third Man Records' latest Vault subscription package.
UPDATE: You can hear a snippet of "Open Up (That's Enough)" down below.
The songs have been pressed on yellow wax, and the label promises that they "are unlike anything else the band has ever done and are both ample reminders of the ferocity of this motley collection of low-lifes, grifters and ne'er-do-wells."
The tracks will be available digitally for non-subscribers, but only after the packages ship out.
Subsequently, the Dead Weather will continue to record and release 7-inches before dropping their third full-length in 2015. We previously reported that recording was underway this summer.
The Vault subscription package also contains a live double-LP from another of Jack White's groups, the Raconteurs. Live at the Ryman Auditorium contains 13 tracks, with "Blue Veins" and "Carolina Drama" both clocking it at more than 10 minutes, and "The Switch and the Spur" and "Many Shades of Black" sporting a horn section. It was recorded in September 2011 in Nashville.
The set has been pressed on 180-gram vinyl, with the first disc on so-called "rawhide and tobacco" coloured vinyl and the second on "gold and oil" coloured vinyl. See the tracklist below.
Lastly, the package includes Live at the Ryman Auditorium on DVD. The high-definition footage was shot with four cameras.
