Published Dec 05, 2013Earlier this year, Third Man Records teamed up with the storied Sun Records to launch a series of 7-inch reissues. Now, the label has unveiled the second batch of 7-inches from the partnership.
Today (December 5), Third Man released Roy Orbison and the Teen Kings' "Rockhouse" / "You're My Baby," Jerry Lee Lewis's "Great Balls of Fire" / "You Win Again," and D.A. Hunt's "Lonesome Old Jail" / "Greyhound Blues."
While Orbison and Lewis are bonafide legends, the D.A. Hunt single is relatively obscure. The label notes that his two songs were long believed to have only existed in 78 rpm form, but a 45 rpm single emerged in 2010 and was sold on eBay for $10,323. This Third Man reissue marks the first time that Hunt's music has been widely available on 7-inch.
The records can be purchased from Third Man's store, either individually or as part of a bundle. As with the first batch of singles, they will be made available on nifty-looking "Sun Ray" yellow and black vinyl, although it's currently unknown how and when these versions will be released.
