Jack White has been giving his followers a crash course in music history via a string of reissues through his Third Man Records imprint, and now he's unveiled the label's latest archival release: a live album from Detroit garage rock heroes the Gories, due out on November 26.
The album is called The Shaw Tapes: Live in Detroit 5/27/88. Recorded at a house party in a converted store front, this is the Gories' first live record. The covers-heavy set features tunes by the Stooges, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon and more. See the tracklist below.
The Gories were active from 1986 until the early '90s, although they have reunited for shows in recent years. Since the band's initial run, the members have gone on to make music with the Dirtbombs and the Demolition Doll Rods.
"The best garage band in America since the '60s. Very primitive," White said in a statement. "They made people with Les Pauls and Marshall amps look like idiots."

The Shaw Tapes takes its name from late Detroit music aficionado Jim Shaw, who recorded the show and apparently has many more in his archives. Third Man hopes to release more of his live recordings in the future.
In other Third Man news, the company have confirmed the release details of Jack Johnson's previously promised Live at Third Man album. This breakfast concert will be released on vinyl for Record Store Day's Black Friday event on November 29. A wider release will follow in March 2014.
