The Thing to Issue New 'BOOT!' LP

Scandinavian free jazz trio the Thing have announced they've founded their own the Thing Records to issue their upcoming sixth studio LP, BOOT!, which drops November 5.

The new record follows last year's collaborative covers project The Cherry Thing with Neneh Cherry, but brings the focus back to the core trio of saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love.

A press release notes that the six-song LP explores the realms of free jazz, punk, Ethiopian music, funk and soul, with the group working these sounds into their own compositions, as well as revamped takes on John Coltrane and Duke Ellington. While most of the original material is credited to all three members of the Thing, "Red River" is apparently a solo composition from Håker Flaten.

You'll find all the details down below.

BOOT!:

1. India (John Coltrane)
2. ReBOOT (The Thing)
3. Heaven (Duke Ellington arr. Mats Gustafsson)
4. Red River (Ingebrigt Håker Flaten)
5. BOOT (The Thing)
6. Epilog (The Thing)
