This week, you may have already heard rumours that the wildly successful Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody could be getting a sequel. At this point, though, you may want to take that "news" with a grain a salt, as contradictory reports have already shot down the validity of the story.
It all started yesterday (March 11) when Page Six ran a story based on some quotes it got from Rudi Dolezal, a music video director who worked with Queen on several clips back in the day. Dolezal said a sequel to Bohemian Rhapsody is "being heavily discussed in the Queen family," adding, "I'm sure [Queen manager Jim Beach] plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid."
And with that, we now have multiple stories across the internet all telling us that a follow-up film is in the works — all based on quotes from an old Queen music video director who actually wasn't even part of Bohemian Rhapsody. But here in 2019, that's all it really takes for the internet to pick up on tiny crumb of a rumour and run wild with it.
Thankfully, some clearer heads have prevailed, including to folks over at /Film, who effectively shot down the ridiculous rumour by taking the time to get comment from someone actually involved with the film.
When the site reached out to Graham King — the actual producer of Bohemian Rhapsody — his publicist confirmed that the rumours of a sequel are simply not true, explaining that there are currently no plans for another Bohemian Rhapsody film.
The site writes, "We reached out to Graham King, the producer who spent years ushering Bohemian Rhapsody to the big screen, to ask about the validity of this claim about a sequel. His publicist tells us it is not true."
Sure, more ridiculous things in Hollywood have happened besides making a sequel to a biopic where — spoiler — the main character dies.
